High Court of Australia

Not to be confused with High Court of Justice, the first-instance court for civil cases in England and Wales.

The High Court of Australia (HCA) is the supreme court of Australia. It is the final court of appeal for all civil cases, including patent cases.

Powers

The High Court hears appeals related to patents from the Federal Court of Australia. Typically, the court operates by receiving applications for appeal from parties in a process called special leave. This means that there is no automatic right of appeal, and instead the court must grant permission before an appeal can be heard.
