MediaWiki talk:Sitenotice

Wording notes

  • The current text might be too wordy. It should all fit in one line. On my screen it does, but does it wrap to two lines on other people's screens?
  • I've intentionally avoided the word "Disclaimer" because it seems to add nothing.
  • I've said "It may" despite being pretty sure that the wiki does contain statements which ESP disagrees with. The point is to note that displaying these statements is not necessarily the purpose of the wiki. Some statements should be removed.

"which" and "that"

It may contain statements that End Software Patents does not endorse.

Should it be "which" or "that"?

The answer is that both are valid, but "that" has two advantages. First, it's a full character shorter. Ooooo. Second, it avoids the ambiguity whereby people might think ESP objects to the whole idea of the wiki "containing statements" :-) Ciaran 20:15, 20 February 2011 (EST)

Why is the wrong link in bold?

The last line of Sitenotice is currently:

But when I visit the linked pages, the link is still active instead of being replaced by bold non-linked text.

Further, today I see the bug whereby the "Lawsuits" link is a bold non-link no matter what page I'm currently visiting.

What's the correct workaround for this? Or what am I doing to trigger this bug?

For the moment, I'll convert the links to external links. Ciaran 06:23, 27 February 2012 (EST)
