Michel Barnier on software patents
Michel Barnier became the European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services in February 2010.
In France, Barnier is part of Sarkozy's centre-right party, UMP.
From 2004 to 2009, this post in the European Commission was held by Charlie McCreevy. After the rejected EU software patents directive, McCreevy said that he would not propose further legislation on the topic during his term - leaving open speculation about whether new legislation would be proposed after his term ended in November 2009.
