Talk:Breaks common software distribution models
What's the term
There's a word economists use to describe the fact that copies of software don't have to cost anything. I remember hearing Eben Moglen use it in a talk about free software, where he joked about academics covering themselves in chalk and then rejecting the answer.
It's something about "marginal cost", which for software is zero. It would be a good term to use to describe why software has a problem that hardware doesn't. Ciaran 16:19, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
- Also: "unit cost". Ciaran 15:25, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure Moglen talked about "zero marginal cost". "Unit cost" seems equally good. Ciaran 20:08, 29 October 2010 (EDT)
