Better than a skilled driver
This page suggests that ABS is not a software process because it could be done by a skilled driver.
I am going to have to disagree with this assertion. ABS works in part by sensing slippage and releasing brakes on individual wheels independently. No matter the skill of a driver, no car offers the ability to brake the four wheels separately. Nor does it offer input to the driver as to which wheels are slipping so he may know upon which wheels to stop braking.
- Aha. I didn't know that. This page, and Anti-lock braking example, are for developing ideas, to see if our current proposals work where they should work (block file format patents) without having unintended side effects (we have no position to push regarding car manufacturing, so we'd rather not propose any changes).
- I think the separate-wheel ABS could be split from the concept of ABS (which gets applied to a single wheel, or might have gotten applied to all wheels in the early days of ABS). I'll flesh this out a little more on Anti-lock braking example.
- Thanks for the observation, more are welcome (and feel free to edit the articles if you wish). Ciaran 17:47, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
