Talk:Fake representatives of free software
OSS v. FS
Though their claim is still highly questionable, they talk about Open Source software and not Free software. Because of general confusion among non-experts about Free software and Open Source Software, it was the responsibility of the claimers to make it clear they are not talking about Free software and only open source software. Now if these claims were used by someone in decisions regarding Free Software, then their knowledge about differences in Free software and Open Source Software becomes highly questionable too.
- I think they're talking about the concept of software such as GNU, OpenOffice, Apache, Firefox, and Linux i.e. software which is both "open source" and "free software". I think they were talking about what I would call "free software", but they simply used their term "open source", so I'd see it as lies about free software, even if they used a different term. UK government
About what the UK government said, I do not think it is misinformation; I think they are confused by an irrelevant fact. As they say, "Open Source software has flourished", but that is irrelevant. Software patents can still affect FOSS; the fact that some of it can flourish does not mean that it isn't threatened by patents. --Zzo38 (talk) 03:05, 5 November 2021 (EDT)
