MPEG-1
It is probably worth mentioning that MPEG-1 is patented (because of Audio layer 3 (MP3)), but that it is approaching the end it's time being patented because of it's age. I wrote up the pages at http://scratchpad.wikia.com/wiki/MPEG_patent_status on this. Josh Cogliati
- When I wrote that page I didn't know the difference between MPEG-1 and h.261, so there are probably a few "MPEG-1" mistakes on the wiki. No royalties for life of licence?
Can someone check if the info in this press release has been noted in our article:
But it's an MPEG LA announcement, so it probably means a lot less than it seems at first glance. I found the link via another site which commented "That 2016 deadline is obsolete and MPEG-LA has said as of August 2010, they will not charge royalties for the life of the license.[1] Ciaran (talk) 07:23, 18 January 2014 (EST)
