This template provides a custom, simplified citation scheme for books. Requires {{Reflist}} for citations to work.

Documentation

To invoke this template, enter <ref>{{book |last= |first= |last2= |first2= |etal= |editor= |chapter= |title= |library= |edition= |publisher= |year= |page= |pages= }}</ref> after your claim. Consult our style guide for more information on how to use it.

Template parameters
Parameter Description Type Status
last The book author's last name. string required
first The book author's first name. If there is one, middle name also goes here. string required
last2 The second book author's last name. Use only if the authors are two in total. string optional
first2 The second book author's first name. If there is one, middle name also goes here. Use only if the authors are two in total. string optional
etal States that there are more than two book authors. Do not use last2 and first2 together with it. Only the first author needs to be cited, e.g. "Doe John et al." (not "Doe John, Doe Jane & et al."). Enter "true" to enable. boolean optional
title The book's title. It will appear as a link if the title exists on ESP Wiki (experimental). string required
library A link to a corresponding Open Library entry, where people can either borrow the book or view it gratis. url optional
chapter The chapter of the book you are citing. Use for books with multiple authors for different chapters. string optional
editor The book's editor(s). Last name goes first. Use for books with multiple authors for different chapters. string optional
edition The book's edition. Use ordinal numbers like "1st", "2nd", "3rd", etc. string optional
publisher The book's publisher. string required
year The book's year of publication. string required
page The specific page you are citing. Use if you are citing only one page. pages should not be used with it. string optional
pages The specific pages you are citing. Use if you are citing more than one page. page should not be used with it. Please prefer shorter expressions, e.g. "178-9", "243-51" (not "178-179", "243-251"). Hyphens (-) are automatically replaced with en dashes (–). string optional
