Template talk:Stub

Useful?

Whenever I see this template used, I just think it's stating the obvious and filling space.

On Wikipedia, I think the stub templates are pretty useless too, but there's some utility there because they're categorised, so I could find technology stubs, or patent stubs, etc. - although even then, I've never found them useful.

Either way, on swpat.org, I'm not sure there's a point in having them. Ciaran 08:09, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

As I see it, the stub system provides a "hive memory" of which topics need work. A user can mark a page as incomplete, so that they or any other user can later browse the stub category/ies and see what needs working on, without actually checking through all the pages in a given topic area. This may not be so important yet, but as the page count expands, finding those forgotten gaps gets harder. The sooner the stub habit sets in, the more complete - and hence useful - the hive memory will be in the future. steelpillow 10:30, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
I'm starting to lose track of the articles I've started but haven't developed, so I see the point now :-) Ciaran 00:27, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Top or bottom?

Just thinking... Since this is meant to be a temporary tag, maybe it should go at the top of articles. That way it's noticeable, and someone will remove it (since it'd be obstructive) as soon as it's not true anymore. Ciaran 00:39, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
