I'm a technologist, who is not involved in the software industry, though I have some programming experience (I learned Fortran on a Punch Card IBM Mainframe in High School, and used to write shareware). I also have read a lot of patents for a variety of hardware technologies in the last 10 years, and now have the opinion that the vast majority of patents are invalid, and that the Patent System as a whole is broken, and needs to be shut down, as repair is probably impossible.
